The Beginnings
The Kiln Club was started at a time when studio pottery was just beginning to catch on in America. Bernard Leach had returned from Japan to his native Britain to take up his vocation as a studio production potter in St. Ives England. He inspired many to take up the profession as well.
Friendship House in Washington DC
was the location for pottery classes. It
was from these classes and those who
taught them that the Kiln Club was
formed.
